- In 1832, American missionaries estimated the population of Hawaii to be 130,313.

- Hawaii is the only state in the nation that grows coffee.

- Sugar was first produced commercially in Hawaii in 1835.

- Hawaii (the big Island), at 93 miles long and 76 miles wide, is the widest and longest island in the chain, twice the size of all the others combined.
- Hawaii is the only state in the nation with a royal palace.
- Pidgin (a mixture of several languages and slang) is technically called Hawaii Creole English.
- Honolulu detective Chang Apana was the inspiration for the fictional detective Charlie Chan.
- In 1976, Dr. Dale Adams of Kailua paddled the Molokai Channel in seven and one half hours. He was the first to do it.
- The first cargo to pass through the newly constructed Panama Canal, on May 8, 1914 was a barge load of sugar from Hawaii.
- In 1983 Kilauea, on The Big Island, erupted.
- In 1864 King Kamehameha V sold the island of Ni'ihau to the Sinclair-Robinson family for $10,000.
- In 1758 Kamehameha I was born in Kohala, in the northern part of the island of Hawaii.
- The first horses brought to Hawaii were landed on the Big Island by the American brig, Lelia Byrd.
- Born on the Big Island astronaut, Ellison Onizuka, was killed in the explosion of the space shuttle Challenger.
- Duke Kahanamoku won the 100 meter freestyle in 1920 at the Antwerp Olympics.
- The popular television show, Hawaii Five-O, first aired Sept. 26, 1968 and ran until April 5, 1980, making it the longest running police drama.
- In 1994, the U.S. Bureau of the Census forecast that the Hawaii population would be 1,815,000 in the year 2020.
